AWWW MONDAY - WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 26

This is Spirou, a little Bichon, which my friend Isabel met in our shelter. He had been confiscated by the police along with other dogs because he belonged to Romanians who used them for begging.

The little guy had never lived in a home before; instead, he had been kept in a cage. Isabel’s task was to get him accustomed to a normal dog's life. Naturally, she hadn't intended to keep him. But Spirou won her heart, and as soon as he was cleared for adoption, she adopted him herself ! He is so friendly, doesn't bark, is fine being left alone, and was in good health, apparently, he had been well-fed. The vet estimated his age to be two years at most. I also fell in love with Spirou, and bought him a stuffed animal. He has adopted it as his own little doll and carries it around everywhere with him. How lucky for Spirou that he was adopted by Isabel. The residents of our castle all fell in love with him too !

WEEKEND

We could sit outside, exchanged the last news and played Bingo. Unfortunately later, one resident who lives on the same floor as me, knocked at my door and came in.

She was weeping and looked terrible. She stammered something and was hard to understand, but eventually I understood that she wanted me to go with her because she believed her husband had died.

Naturally, I went with her though perhaps it wasn't all that natural, but having seen several dead people  since Rick passed away, it didn't bother me anymore. I have changed. I looked at the man and initially thought he had passed away; his face already wore the mask of death, and his mouth was wide open.

I stepped closer and saw that he was still breathing. Then I called a nurse, who took care of Ivette.
We sat outside in the afternoon, and I went to bed early that evening because I wasn't feeling well. The next morning, I was informed that Ivette’s husband had died around 5 a.m. When I went to see her, the room had already been tidied up; I hadn't heard a thing—he had been taken away so discreetly.

We all agreed it was for the best; he had cancer, was over eighty, and didn't want any more chemotherapy. That’s just how it is here, people come and go, but such is life: you get used to everything, even the things you never wanted to get used to.

WEEKEND

Saturday afternoon I went to my "old" friend Ilona, we know each other more then 20 years and had traveled a lot together. Unfortunately there had been a misunderstanding between us just during the time I would have needed her most, when Rick lived his last days and we were also locked in with the Corona Virus.

But after 4 years we managed to reconnect and it is almost the same as before. I say almost because she belongs to my "old" life when Rick was still there and when we went together to our painting class. But she has broken all contact to them because it had changed so much. And I had decided to cut my old life off. So now we restart and it was a very nice afternoon.

the two of us in Scotland

Later, when I got home, I felt a strange sensation; I had put the past behind me, yet memories were surfacing again. But I quickly tucked them away, keeping only the ones involving Rick. He will remain in my heart forever.

On Sunday it rained, but in the afternoon I could walk a bit in our park, yesterday I walked better. Oh well that's the disease. We made cross words together and were proud because we found all words very quickly. There were a few visitors who watched us and applauded.

WEEKEND

On Saturday it was cloudy but enough to sit on our terrace. We did a Quiz which was rather difficult, we had to find out the price of an item or a restaurant before the Euro which was introduced on January 1, 2002. Of course we were all so amazed  how much prices had risen! Of course, salaries and inflation had gone up too. Some items—like TVs—were actually much cheaper then  before the Euro. The same applied to cars, radios, and, naturally, mobile phones and telephones in general. It was really very interesting. Many people thought it was due to the euro, but that isn't true, because the British—who kept their pound—experienced the same price increases. I always remember that when my son was living in London, we used to buy clothes and food there because it was cheaper, and we would bring him wine and other items that were much more expensive in London. That's finished long ago !

On Sunday it rained almost the whole day so we played Bingo in the afternoon.  Our activity team was off duty. It was again a stupid planning, at least one of them could have worked instead of giving all three the day off. So, Jeanine and I took over the bingo session.

For the first time since I’ve been here, an argument broke out—simply because someone didn't grasp the game immediately; after all, the poor man is 91. A woman berated him and called him stupid. That made me angry, and I told her that when "she" is over 90, we will shout at "her" if she doesn't understand something right away. She calmed down after that.

Prompt - A caricature of a old woman, yelling at a woman. True to life. She is a grandma. Bg a kitchenMarriage Cartoons Funny

Then, a caregiver wheeled in a resident who didn't belong to our group at all; she suffered from dementia, took a bite out of the cake, and then put it back. Naturally, we tried to explain her that she shouldn't do it, but she just smiled and happily kept eating. Eventually, we called someone to take her away.

By then, the mood was ruined, and the residents went back to their rooms. Oh well, it will all be forgotten by tomorrow. In any case, I’m not letting it upset me, and I’m staying out of these childish squabbles.

WEEKEND

Saturday was a real nice day, and we played our Question and Answer game on the terrace. There are two new residents, they look nice, we will see if they "fit" in our family !

On Sunday it was really hot over 30°C ! this is the second heat wave ! My friend Ilona had invited me and that was good, because in my car it was nice and cool and under a big tree too. We had a very good ice cream and chatted about the travels we had made together. There were quite a lot !

Before I left she showed me the last painting she had done before she too, stopped painting. She has no inspiration any more like me.

She loves the Buddhism and has a few [statues] in her living room and a large one in the garden.

I woke up during the night and it was very bright! I looked out the window and saw a huge moon! I took several pictures because it looked so beautiful, and this was the best one.

of course the one I made with AI, looks much better !

WEEKEND

After the nice warm weather on Saturday, today the temperature dropped by half today, and I had to change into warmer clothes because it was simply too cold.

From the window of my friend you have a great view on the original castle, it shows the little tower with a cross on the top. The building around was the castle when it was built. The part with the red bricks and balconies was added later, when the winter garden was transformed into the today's restaurant. As I have exercised to make old pictures new with the help of AI, I now try to create pictures by just writing what I want. Here I asked for a full moon in a cloudy sky and this came out !

and then a burning open fire

and then I asked for a sunflower field with a bench in the front.

I was quite happy with my trials and finally the afternoon went by very quick ! Outside it poured cats and dogs,

which gave me this idea .... and then the sun came out, just when I wanted to read a bit on my bed.

WEEKEND

From one day to the other the temperature dropped by half ! No wonder that lot of people caught a cold, me included although I was very careful. If the day before it was so hot that it was impossible to sit on the terrace, the next day it was impossible because it was to cold !

I played again a little bit on my computer and then joined the others for the activity and the coffee afterwards.

I have never sat on a horse, but thanks to AI I learned it very quickly.

Rosie has gained a bit of weight

On Sunday the temperature raised a bit but still to cool to sit outside. Our A/C "specialists" had left the A/C on and the restaurant was a fridge. I asked which genius had turned on the air conditioning when it was 18°C outside.

I explained for the X time that the thing is designed to cool the room down, so you don't need it when it's already cold. I think it's hopeless; I'm going to let the director know that people simply don't understand how it works

There weren't many people there, so we just chatted together; there were quite a few guests present, too.

and to end the day I got this photo from my grandson who just enjoyed a "little" portion of Spaghettis !

and a picture from the Garda Lake (Italy) taken from high in the mountains ! He too loves his Nonno's (Grandpa) Lake !
