HODGEPODGE OCTOB ER 9

 1. 'The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.' How does this saying ring true in your own family, either the one you grew up in or the one you made?

In my case, the saying isn't true at all. My parents were short and had brown hair. I'm tall and blond. My mother is anxious and desperately needs someone to support her. I'm the exact opposite. It's the same with my father. He's uptight and full of principles. I have nothing in common with him either. I'm probably a cuckoo's egg. But my aunt, my mother's sister, told me that I'm just like my grandmother, both full of love of travel adventures and love of life.

My  My Grandma was 75 when she took a plane: for  the first time in her life to the States ! That was probably end 1960 to visit her daughter  in Madison/Wisconsin. and she  spoke only German!

2. Something you're nuts about these days? How about something that's driving you nuts?

Living here, the only thing which drives me mad is when I have to eat 3 times in one week, mashed potatoes, which I don't like at all. Since I lived alone and then married with Rick for 54 years I had never eaten mashed potatoes again. For an Italian a potato is like a vegetable. The worst is our cook is Italian ! Of course an excuse are the residents who mostly have their third teeth.

3. What does abundance mean to you?

Better to live in abundance then being poor !

4. Caramel apple-caramel cake-caramel corn-caramel sundae-caramel macchiatto...what's your caramel treat of choice?

I am not a friend of all above mentioned caramel things,  I would put it in coffee, but rather prefer an apple cake without nothing else.

5. What's a childhood memory that always comes to mind as the leaves start to fall?

Unfortunately or fortunately when the leaves fall nothing special comes into my mind. I have no special childhood memory with falling leaves.

6. Insert. your own random thought here.

I nearly suffocate when I imagine that we are already in autumn, then comes the horribly gray, wet November, and then all the festivities ! You can already see in the shops angels and Santa Clauses, Christmas tree baubles, etc. On top of that, in some parts of Belgium, St. Nicholas is celebrated more than Christmas. I wish it were all over already.
