FRIDAY's FAVE FIVE

Monday I had to go shopping in town, just little things and as it was grey and rather cool, I drove a bit around to make my car move a bit. But there is so much traffic now in Waterloo, that it takes you a lot of time to drive through. It had been a village with narrow streets and a lot of farmers and land and now there are buildings with apartments and if you calculate a family with 3 children, it is possible that they have five cars or at least 3.

The next day while we played scrabble, we suddenly saw 3 nurses running outside, our "gardener" a female resident who works every day from 9 am until the evening non stop pulling out weeds or breaking off twigs, all with her bare hands, had fallen, somebody had seen it and alerted the nurses.

We saw through the window that they put her on a wheelchair and soon after arrived an ambulance.  She is over 90 and is every day in our park and "works" that makes her happy. If the weather is bad she folds napkins !

Today she was back I asked her how she was doing by shouting loudly in her ear. She showed me her arms and hands which were bandaged, but that didn't bother her. This woman is truly robust!

The next day, I actually wanted to stay in my room and brood, but then I gave myself a push and went downstairs.

Luckily! Because it was a lot of fun. Kim and Elinor, who were keeping us busy, had set up a large screen and played videos of singers from our generation and danced to them !

We thought we danced better at that time,  the rock 'n' roll wasn't right, and the Bamba wasn't right either, not to mention the twist.

We thought they were too slow, and we had danced it much better and with more energy. AndrĂ©, who is in a wheelchair, wanted to show them how  with his arms and almost dislocated one arm. I wasn't satisfied with La Bamba and tried to swing my legs up high, I managed it, bur had to hold my hands on two tables, but then I got breathless! We rediscovered our youth!

On Friday, I had an appointment with my pulmonologist .I have to come for a check-up twice a year.

For some time now, I've noticed that I've been acting like my grandpa, who was terribly nervous whenever he had an appointment. I felt the same way, and I arrived way too early. Fortunately, after going through all the tests, I got the good news that everything was OK and my condition hadn't changed. He even gave me the green light to travel, with travel assistance, of course.

The bottle is hanging over the chair

When I got home, our game was just starting. I didn't participate, I was too tired. But it was still fun to watch. Two cords were tied to  opposit columns, which had been pulled through two empty bottles. Then, at each end, one person pushed the bottle as far as she/he could. The bottle that was pushed the farthest won.

It was particularly surprising that those in wheelchairs made it the furthest. They were very proud and said they had a lot of strength in their arms from trying to move around on their own.

It's still grey, humid and cold we try to cheer up each other !

Rosie has finally tried out her new basket which is not so high, as she starts to have sometimes difficulties to jump, the new basket is ideal. But Princess Rosie still prefers her old one !

  1. I'm glad your doctor visit went well and you got a good report. I get a little nervous going to the doctor, too. I'm glad the woman who fell is okay.

  2. Dear Ingrid, I am very happy that your doctor visit went well! Rosie is so pretty! I love the cat statue! I loved the dance video, what fun! I remember that song so well! Kung Fu Fighting! I always liked that song, and it was (still is) such fun to dance to! I am happy that you all try to cheer one another up on gray days!
How nice that the lady in her 90's likes to take care of gardening chores! Sad that she fell, though, I hope she recovers quickly...it sounds like she is!
Dear Ingrid, I am so happy that you went downstairs instead of staying in your room, I am sure this was much better for you, as you had fun!

  4. It's so encouraging that your health has not changed. Medical appointments can be quite worrying, wondering what might be found. It's grey and cold here, but quite still.

  5. Good news on the dr visit. And even better news that you are cleared to travel.
Your castle always has so many activities. That's a good thing.
And Princess Rosie looks very comfortable in her bed.

  7. I'm glad the doctor's appointment went well and you can think about travelling. Also good to hear the gardener was ok after the fall. They are very inventive with the activities organised for you at your castle. Rosie looks very content in her new bed.
