My bronchitis, which loved me so much stayed for almost two weeks, is now finally leaving me.
On Tuesday, I was supposed to have a blood test. At 7 a.m., all the lights in my room were suddenly switched on, and a male nurse wheeled his squeaky cart into my room and informed me that he was going to draw my blood. I held out my arm, and he fiddled with his cart for a while. Finally, he found what he needed, but unfortunately not my vein, with which I have never had any trouble before. So he took my hand. I felt a slight stitch, but it didn't really hurt. Then he took a whole roll of bandages and wrapped it around my hand. I told him not to use the whole roll, my hand looked like a boxer's, but he didn't have any scissors. I offered him my scissors, but he refused and kept wrapping. Then he fiddled with his cart again and wheeled the squeaky thing out. I yelled to turn off the lights and close the door. Then I wanted to continue to sleep, but with my boxer hand it was impossible.
When I woke up I had this nice Halloween hand !

Now, at the end of the week I have blue fingers added. Countless times I am asked, "what did you do to your hand ?"
The worst was, that the test had to be repeated the next day, because the nice colored one was not right. This time I had the "Queen" blood taker and didn't feel anything and nobody could see anything either. No worries, I am still alive !
I tried a little round in our park again, but the air must have been very bad, although the sun was shining and I had to return and remain inside.
The glass cover of my lamp over the bed was broken and I have got new ones, they are much prettier then the old once. Our "man for everything" did a very good job and as he was already there, I also asked him to connect my luminosity therapy lamp. My doctor recommended it because we don't have enough light.

In countries like Sweden, Norway, and Finland, these lamps are standard in every household. You sit in front of it for half an hour and soak up some vitamin B. It won't give you a tan, but it's good for your health.
For the moment there are a lot of changes here, as floor 4 has started to be transformed and floor 3 is done. Therefore people had to change rooms, the fugitives, and the brain damaged and we see them not so much anymore.
Little Rosie has put on some weight, which makes me happy as she goes towards 20 years now !

WOW the nurse who took your blood the first time had NO clue how to do that. I always have to tell the person doing my annual blood draw to use a child's needle (the butterfly kind) cause my arm is skinny and they can never find a vein even when I've fasted for 12 hours and drank a full glass of water hahah
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a warm cozy weekend. We are supposed to get some snow tomorrow which will be nice but it's too frigid to go out and snowshoe if we do!!
They often have to try 2-3 times to get blood or put an iv in me, leaving me looking like I have been beaten up. But yours is the worst I have seen! That guy needs lessons on taking blood--or else needs to be assigned to do something else. I'm glad your bronchitis it going away. I'm glad your "man for everything" got the lamps taken care of.
ReplyDeleteDear Ingrid, first of all, your blog header image is absolutely gorgeous!!! I can relate to your experience in blood tests. But for myself, it happens quite regularly, because my veins on my arms, where they usually draw blood, hide! Yes, they hide! Fortunately for myself, I get very experienced nurses who are able to find a vein, but it has happened that they have had to do the blood test on my hand. It stings a bit, but is fine. And I bruise easily, but usually the bruise occurs on my arm, not so much my hand. Thankfully my last blood test done on my arm in November....there was no bruising.
ReplyDeleteRosie is beautiful! What a blessing you have each other!
I am very happy to hear that your bronchitis is on its way out!
What happened to your hand is shocking. You need to ask for a specialist nurse, or at least a very experienced one.
ReplyDeleteOuch! Your hand looks so sore. I'm glad the second draw was done by "the queen".
ReplyDeleteRosie does look happy and healthy. Maybe she sits with you in front of the lamp?
Have a good weekend!
Your hand looks dreadful and painful, I hope it is getting better by now. My Lola has also put on some weight, though not much, she is heading towards 18 this year.
ReplyDeleteWell that nurse made a right mess of your hand. No wonder he covered it up so well so that you might not realise how bad it was! I'm glad you're starting to feel better and that Rosie is doing well.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're feeling better, though your hand tells a different story - it's amazing how bruises can spread so easily.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that the bronchitis is finally starting to ease up. Your poor hand. That used to happen to my Mom too. Hope it wasn't too sore. He really wrapped it, didn't he? Glad Rosie has gained a bit of weight.
ReplyDeleteThat first nurse needs to go back for training! And fancy not being prepared and having scissors!
ReplyDeleteGlad you have a therapy 'daylight' or SAD lamp as we call them. Hopefully it will add some joy and fortify you for a speedy recovery.
