FREITAG's FAVE FIVE

On Monday when I looked out of the window, the world was white it looked really beautiful

In the snow the container looks less ugly, as they empty the 4th floor now, the old furniture, is collected in the container and then taken away. Meanwhile I am "happy" to see old mattresses, tables, cabinets, etc.

On the streets it was less beautiful, there were traffic jams everywhere and a lot of accidents. The airplanes were all cancelled. It was not easy for our staff to arrive here on time.

I badly needed to go shopping for Rosie and my fruits and as it had stopped snowing on Tuesday I quickly bought what I needed but for 10 days.

It never snows for long here in our area. Last year I bought snow boots, but never wore them because it stopped snowing, so I was well-equipped for the snow this year and had no problems.

On Tuesday a snowstorm was forecast for Thursday, the school were closed, as were most offices. Unfortunately, the weatherman was completely wrong, and everyone complained, especially about the school closures. In the evening, the authorities apologized, as many people had also stayed home from work. In some parts of Belgium, not even three snowflakes fell!

Since I have lived here, they make a mountain out of a little snow, and when there is black ice, nobody goes outside, even though they're always spreading salt.

In Amsterdam it also had snowed a lot and Toby had built this nice Snowman, and dog Leia discovered the first snow of her life !

We celebrated Epiphany two days later but still had a lot of fun. Four cakes were eaten, and each one had a little figurine inside. Whoever found it became king. For the first time in my life, I became queen and bit into the figurine of the Virgin Mary ! It rather looked like a piece of pink stone; anyway, I lost her, so I couldn't take any pictures. My king was a retired police officer who was very happy, it also was the first time that he was a king !

  1. The snow man or snow lady is so cute and creative and the dog so happy seeing snow for the first time. When I was a child in Wisconsin our chihuahua was shocked by the snow. He lifted up one leg after another, trying to not stand on all 4 feet in the snow. I like your description of you, a young lady hidden in an old grandma's body. I think that could be me too!

  3. It's the same here in the UK - an inch of snow and everything grinds to a halt! Your Epiphany celebrations sound fun. Enjoy the weekend.

  7. We’re much the same here with snow. We only get any maybe four times a year, so the county isn’t going to spend all kinds of money on equipment to deal with the snow. But they do spread sand on the main roads.

I love Toby’s snowman. What a great idea to use branches with leaves for “hair.” It’s so fun the dog loved the snow.

I am glad you were able to go out and get what you needed safely.

  8. The snowy pictures are so beautiful but I can well imagine the chaos the storm caused. Sometimes weather predicting can be hit and miss. Around here we are used to and well prepared for snowstorms and it usually doesn't stop us. In fact, people forget to slow themselves down to the conditions and that's what ends up causing chaos like the 100 car pile up outside a major city on a major highway last month. Love the "hair" on Toby's snowman.

  9. I enjoyed the snow pictures. It does not snow in my city, only in the mountains, about 2 hours away. I like the picture of you with your crown!
