1. Next Sunday is Grandparent's Day. Share a favorite memory, photo, recipe, or something you learned from a grandparent.
My grandma was the most important person in my life. I stayed with my grandparents from my birth on until I was 6. Then with my parents. I have been told (when I was adult) that my mother was afraid of babies ! This fact was probably my luck, that I am today how I am.
I am for the for equal rights, and that I should never be afraid of a man; I should just imagine him naked. That made me laugh. She was a woman born in 1894, and as soon as she could, she became independent and became the governess of a castle, like the one who directed the staff at Downtown Abbey I forgot his name. I spent many school holidays with my grandparents, my parents preferred to travel as a couple. We don't celebrate grandparents here in Belgium.
2. What's a quote from a book (besides The Bible) that has stayed with you?
I don't remember any quote from a book. I like the quote in my sidebar
3. What's your number one food pet peeve?
Mashed potatoes, peas, carrots, if "food pet peeve" means food I don't like. I prefer the light food with a lot of vegetables like tomatoes, aubergines, red pepper etc. And seldom beef meat.
4. What's one thing about you that is still the same as it was when you were young?
I still say what's on my mind, unless, of course, it's about someone's appearance. Can't say to a fat person that she or he is fat. When I was a kid, I sometimes had problems with that because nobody likes to hear the truth!
5. September is National Preparedness Month...does your family have an emergency plan? Do you have some sort of preparedness kit you keep on hand? If so, tell us one thing that's kept there.
We have never thought of this and I now, don't think about it either. Some people tell me to at least prepare a bag with a nightgown, a toothbrush and some underwear, I think they are right but so far it is only in my mind.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I think autumn and then winter are coming soon, and I'm afraid I'll get my seasonal depression. I hope not. Last year, it was so-so, but the year before that was bad.
I'm also worried about my cat Rosie, she sleeps all day and night, too. She doesn't play anymore and only eats her dry food, even though I also give her wet food. But her coat is still nice and shiny, she washes herself, and so far, she's been eating well. What's new is that she no longer takes me as her racetrack, she just checks three or four times during the night to see if I'm still there by washing my nose. According to Google, she's completely normal, after all, she's 19 and I don't want to stress her by taking her to the vet, if not absolutely necessary.
Hopefully she'll stay a little longer with me, otherwise our family will be just the two of us, my son and me.
Seasonal depression can be bad!! Our daylight is beginning to be less and less - just a little each day. I thrive in sunshine, not in darkness.
ReplyDeleteDear Ingrid, many people have SAD or seasonal affected disorder. There is a lamp that can help with this. It is a special lamp that gives enough light to counteract the effects of dark days and less sunlight.
ReplyDeleteSending you much love ❤️ and warm 🫂 🤗 hugs.
My mother had that SAD problem, too. Yes see if you can find one of those special lights, they really DO help.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers, and #4 made me laugh. How many times when I am shopping I hear little ones being told by their parent to hush, because they are saying things that they think, their filters are not fully developed yet, LOL!
That is a very special picture of you and Rosie! I love it!
Your grandmother was a very forward-thinking person and was a good influence on you.
ReplyDeleteSAD affects so many people. My mother had it and so does my son, to a degree.
Lola at 17 also sleeps all day and all night, mostly, sometimes she watches out the window on the sunny windowsill, but then goes to sleep, still eats wet and dry food, though less than she used to, never cleans the bowl anymore.
ReplyDeleteI never knew my grandparents, they stayed in Germany when we came to Australia.
What a fantastic woman your grandmother was, so forward thinking.
ReplyDeleteThat quote did make me chuckle.
Seasonal depression is the worst. I hope you don't suffer too badly over the darker months.
Aww! It sounds like Rosie is doing really well considering she is 19 years old.
I'm sorry about your cat and hope she's feeling like herself again soon. She's had a long life and been well loved by you. I hope the seasonal depression is not an issue for you this year. Wishing you lots of sunny days!
ReplyDeleteRosie is a gem. I often wonder who really is doing the looking after. I guess its a mix of both, and maybe for different reasons. Long may you both be healthy.
