FRIDAY's FAVE FIVE

It's still cool for end September, some have taken their winter coats out for a walk in the park.

I preferred to stay inside and looked for photos from the past, not to say "old". I had an appointment with my friend Laure, we wanted to watch the last film of Downtown Abbey. We both had followed the story from the beginning and we were  both keen to see the end.

The film was great and let me forget what had happened before. We found that the film explained very well why the UK is so different from the other European countries. Laure's son is married with a Canadian girl and they had chosen to buy a house in the outskirts of London, and my son had lived over 10 years there. Therefore we knew quite good the way of life in the UK.

Unfortunately when we entered the cinema hall, it was very dark inside and you hardly could see the steps. As I sometimes have balance problems, I promptly tripped and fell, first on my knees, then one leg ended in the gap between the stairs end the wall  and the rest of me  "spread" across  a stair. The men standing behind us immediately tried to pick me up, which three of them managed to do. I felt like an elephant. When I was on my feet, everyone asked me if I was hurt, but I had nothing, and nothing hurt.  We sat down and enjoyed the film.

Then I drove home, of course nobody was in the castle's corridors not even a ghost and I got to my room, was tired and went to bed.

During the night my arm started to hurt and I saw a big blue spot. I put a special creme on it and fell asleep again.  But in the morning when I got up and wanted to do my Yoga exercises, I suddenly felt like I'd been put through a mangle and my head felt like I'd been hit with a hammer, probably the shock from the fall.

So I lay on my sofa all day, and watched TV, only interrupted when someone asked how I was feeling. Luckily, I didn't need a doctor, and when I didn't move, I felt perfectly normal. This feeling lasted for three days, getting a little better each day. From the second day onwards I went to the others and watched them having fun, and of course I also had coffee and cake with them.

Trying out bow and arrow ! For a over 80 young lady she managed well and the arrow landed in the middle !

I had promised to Jeanine to go shopping with her and on Tuesday I felt normal again so we went. It was all little things I needed like napkins for guests, shampoo etc. and she also but found a very nice pyjama. We wanted to drink something somewhere, but were a little tired so we returned to the castle and arrived just at time for the coffee.

Our Italian Mamma Rina, had to move upstairs, her dementia became worse and she suddenly lived in the past, at 4 pm she wanted to leave to prepare supper for her 4 boys and asked everybody if they could drive her home. Now she comes from time to time to say hello, mostly after lunch, then her brain works well. I really miss her.  For me she was like a piece of Italy, the typical Italian mamma.

I finally saw the new manager  who will be here until a pearl is found. She's a head shorter than me and reminded me of those little yapping dogs. She's not strong enough to steer such a "ship." And it shows: the cook is sick again, the food is too salty, and this week I got a tray like this.

I get more and more complaints and my list becomes long and longer. Fortunately I don't mind and defend my residents and sometimes also the staff. Probably therefore I personally can't complain, this tray must have been for somebody else !
