The Royal Palace of Brussels was originally constructed in the 18th century, and it has undergone several renovations and expansions since then. The originally building was commissioned by the Austrian Archduchess Maria Theresa in 1775 as a residence for the governor-general of the Austrian Netherlands. After Belgium gained independence in 1831, the palace became the official working residence of the Belgian monarchy. He and his family live in the castle of Laeken outside Brussels.

ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. I love your castle better.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and rest of the week. Scritches to Rosie. ♥
I think your castle is more attractive and you're not bothered by crowds coming to gawp!
ReplyDeleteDear Ingrid, I agree with Andrew's comment! Beautiful photos! Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the history and the beautiful images. Fascinating architecture!
ReplyDeleteA lovely and suitably grand palace. I bet it is a good tourist attraction too. Assuming it is open to the public like Buckingham Palace is?
