FRIDAY's FAVE FIVE

We have a terrible week behind us ! It was so hot during 3 days, in some places 40°C which had never happened. In our park there were "only" 34°C but it was impossible to sit outside. And of course there is no air condition in our castle except in the restaurant.

On Monday the weather was rather cool compared to the following days, so I went to Laure who had been in England visiting her son who had bought a house outside London, which dated from 1700 and something and nothing could be changed, it was classified.

I knew all kind of houses in the UK, old and new, through my friend Anne.

My head was spinning as I tried to imagine the house. The rooms were tiny by Belgian standards, I myself had already noticed that. It was in a very beautiful location with a view of the Thames. But she had forgotten the name. It took her 1 1/2 h to get to the center of London.

The only thing I understood was that there were four floors, and the dog slept in the entrance hall because he had difficulties climbing the stairs and had to be carried. He was a sweet Golden Retriever weighing almost 50 kg. But the house was very romantic and cozy.

We both had to laugh, because my son also has such a strange house, with four floors and tiny rooms, only he lives in Amsterdam, and the house is a new build, not romantic and not cozy. In both cases they were not practical at all. But both boys love their houses.

On Tuesday the temperature had raised to 33°C. I had promised my friend Jeanine that we would buy a fan with her. Which we did. The car was nice and cool, and so was the store.

Suddenly I noticed that my mobile phone wasn't working anymore. The salesman explained to me that mine was too old and only worked if there was WIFI in a room.

We then drove home and sat under the cool trees, were served ice cream and coffee, while the others preferred to stay in the restaurant and hang in their wheelchairs or chairs . They had put the seriously ill people, who usually live on the third floor, which is closed, but it was too hot. It's so sad to see when someone is nothing at all anymore and can only be fed.

When it had cooled down, and we could finally sit outside on the terrace and played a funny game, we all were happy, too hot is too hot ! 25° is enough !

After the heat wave, normality has returned and we enjoy the good weather.

Before I joined the others I quickly went to the shop ordering my new Smartphone, it's a new one and not expensive at all, therefore it was sold out everywhere. I will get mine on Monday !

The pedicurist came and kidnapped a resident to treat his feet. Everything looks so familiar, you could even go to the hairdresser in your nightgown!

I forgot to mention that our mini golf is being restored and repaired so next Wednesday we can play.

The trees and shrubs have grown and the view is nice and the air good.

  1. We've been in the 90s Fahrenheit here. I stay inside as much as possible. That's funny about you and your friend's sons having houses with four floors, though they were built in different countries and years. I hope the weather cools off for you. We still have another couple of months of high heat.

  2. We are about 32C here and getting hotter by the day, add in the humidity and its about 40C or even more. UGH. But since this is the norm around here in the summertime,we do have AC for which I am very thankful,. I do not know how we grew up in this kind of climate without AC.
Nice that your park now has a mini golf to amuse yourselves with. Where I work we have a small putting green in the courtyard. Even the peeps who can only get around with a wheelchair can use it. ( I often am the caref[]giver for thse peeps who are so badly off they need me to do everything for them...some can communicate a bit; some cannot at all. Yes it is sad, but at least we can keep them comfortable and that is good for their families, too.

Have a nice weekend and I hope you have decent weather to enjoy.

  3. Hello Ingrid, your photos are beautiful! Here in Montreal today (thank goodness) it was a comfortable 17 in the morning and 24 in the afternoon, a lovely comfortable day. However, we are supposed to have very hot and humid conditions over the weekend into Tuesday. Last week we had 3-4 very hot and humid days where the temperatures reached the upper 30's. Take good care of yourself, stay safe and hydrated.

  4. I agree - 25 is acceptable, anything more, too much. It is sad to see people who can no longer do anything for themselves and we all hope we don't end our days in that condition.

  5. We are experiencing the heat too. I am thankful that we have air conditioning (and it's working again).
Your castle stories are always interesting. Your workers do take good care of all the residents. Hopefully, your chef will cut down on the salt.
I giggled while reading your story about the four story houses built in different centuries. But at least the sons have stable housing.

  6. What a joy it is when the high heat goes away. Twenty two degrees is high enough for us these days, especially if I am working outdoors. Yes, so many of the older houses are impractical. Yet it seems the builders persist in making them so!
Hopefully your new phone will have a great camera and some useful smart features to make your life easier and more enjoyable ie finding new places and shops to visit, as well as ordering Rosie more catnip and toys.
May you both have a wonderful and safe and cool week!

  7. Yes it has been too hot here too - we've stayed inside with fans on and shades drawn to keep out the heat! At least today we have had some rain and it is cooler. Hope you get your new phone set up easily.
